Designed to create a moment of confusion in the viewer whilst they decode what they&#8217;re seeing. I&#8217;ve been fortunate enough to be involved in various functions and happenings over the years which is also great because they are just around the corner from me!<br>There&#8217;s a painting in the Rose Hill that belongs to the owner and used to be her Grandma&#8217;s; Using my own projection mapping software (MapFlaps) running on a Raspberry Pi, I took a photo of this painting, made some subtle (and not so subtle) animations and then re-project this animation back over the painting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Serendipitously, because of multiple factors: the environment and position; the painting itself; the piece works especially well &#8211; the projector can be hidden easily to one side of the painting (a major function of MapFlaps); and the painting itself is great &#8211; slightly ambiguous and subtle!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Projecting over the top of an existing image has a big advantage &#8211; it&#8217;s impossible to take away light with a projector, so being able to use the existing tones on the painting help create a unique feel and manages to confuse the brain.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"font-size:0.8em;line-height: 1.3;border: 2px solid #909090;border-radius: 8px; margin-bottom: 20px; padding: 10px 10px 5px 10px;text-align: center;\"><div class=\"ben-utube\">\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Beauticious MapFlaps @ The Rose Hill\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CYiJSV0O2l0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I enjoy watching when people when they catch some movement on it and do a double take to try to figure what they&#8217;re seeing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Beauticious is a painting with discreet projected animations.
